Children in Russia are not available for an international Russia adoption until they have had the opportunity to be adopted by another Russian family. Children remain on a list called a registry for a total of 9 months. After that time they are allowed to be referred for international adoption. The children are not legally able to be referred until they have completed their time on the registry. Once you receive your child referral, you typically travel within a few weeks.

Please be aware that although some may say that children can be referred before their time has completed on the registry (meaning any children less than 9 months of age) this is not legal in Russia. The child referral you receive through Gladney will have completed their time on the registry in Russia, and is therefore ready to be adopted.

Types of Children in Russia:

• Boys are available and the expected wait time for referral is shorter
• The youngest children available are 9-18 months at time of referral.
• Toddlers available between the ages of eighteen months and three years.
• Both boys and girls are available. However, there are fewer girls available and the wait will be longer.
• Twins are available occasionally.
• Sibling groups are available as well.

There is always a need for families interested in adopting special needs children. These are children with non-correctible or major correctible medical issues.
